Hi everyone! First, let me say thank you for stopping by and checking out my website. My name is Katherine Scarlett Barnes, my friends and family call me Katie. I am a graduate of the BFA Musical Theatre program at Missouri State University. Performing has always been my number one passion. I was born and raised in Sullivan, MO, a small town about an hour or so west of STL. Throughout school I was always participating in some extra curricular activity or another. It love keeping busy. In the fall of 2009 I started college at MSU. I have spent my time here learning all I can about my craft and the industry I'm going into. I could not have chosen a better school for myself, the professors and friends I have made throughout my time here have quickly become my family. Now that this is my last semester I have a lot to do. I've got plenty of auditions lined up, showcases in LA and NYC, a senior recital, and a couple of shows to keep my remaining time here busy. This blog, along with the rest of my site will be keeping you up to date on what I've got planned for this semester as well as what my future has in store for me. Feel free to contact me by email or leave a comment.
Rehearsals for Tent Theatre's "110 In The Shade" have been going great! The entire cast and crew have been hard at work and everyone is extremely talented! I feel so blessed to be part of such a great show, filled with so many wonderful people. Today was our first rehearsal in the space and we are ready to start adding all the technical aspects in the next couple of rehearsals. I can't wait for us to open next week!!! Hope everyone can make it to the show! So, it's time to give an update! I have just closed a huge chapter of my life. I graduated from MSU on May 17th. These past four years have been a huge blessing and adventure for me. I'm leaving with great memories, amazing friends and family, training that will see me through as I endeavor to pursue my dreams, and amazing opportunities ahead of me.
Today starts my new life! I am at my first rehearsal for Tent Theatre's "110 in the Shade". We've had design presentations that look amazing and we've had our first table read. This show is going to be epic! The cast and crew are great! I am so honored to be making my Tent debut with such a great production. Later today I will be filling out my form to become EMC! I will keep you all posted as the show progresses. Get your tickets ASAP! Well I have been in LA since Saturday. We've had Alumni events both with people in the industry and out of it. We've been to the beach (it was my first time EVER)! We've met and had Q&A's with Managers, actors, producers, and casting directors. We got to tour Warner Bros. studios. We've walked down the Avenue of the Stars, and taken pictures with the Hollywood sign in the background. And then today was the day we've been working so hard for, not just for this past school year, but since we've started our training at MSU. I am so honored for yet another great opportunity. I've had such a great time, the showcase went great! Now I've got three more days of just relaxing and having a great time with friends.

I'm behind on my weekly posting! Last week we were working with kids in the Hartland, WI, area. We had eighty kids auditioning, with only seventy spots to fill. We knew after training week that there may come a time when we had to cut kids. I knew then that it would not be easy for me, and it was even worse when it came time to make decisions. During auditions, there wasn't a single kid that we automatically thought, "Nope, they aren't what we want." Any of those kids would have done well in the show, which made it even harder. When we made our final decisions there were many tears, some of them were mine. My biggest worry was that one of those kids would never audition for anything again because they got cut. However, it's also the name of the game in this profession, and it's good for them to start learning that sooner rather than later. In the end, we had a wonderful, talented cast. Our rehearsals all went well, the kids retained information well, and were quickly off book. Joseph and I were feeling a little off. At first I thought it was because we'd been on the road for so many weeks straight, but it wasn't that I was tired of doing my job. Suddenly it hit me, we were both still feeling weird after having to cut kids. Once we identified the problem, we were able to put it aside. Both our Friday and Saturday shows went extremely well. we were fortunate enough to have a lot of parent volunteers to help with makeup. We also had a group of high schoolers as our running crew (stage manager, assistant stage manager, lights, and sound operators.) They were all very talented, dedicated individuals who made our lives so easy for tech rehearsals. The audiences really enjoyed the show, and the kids had a blast. There weren't any mistakes outside of a few stumbles over lines that went unnoticed by the audience. We were very proud of them. Our sponsor this week was pretty hands on, she was always there to help with the kids. On Thursday, she invited us out for dinner at a local Mexican restraunt. It was really nice getting to know her better, and it made us feel special that she took the time to get to know us outside of rehearsal. We were lucky enough to have our Prairie Fire friends on team Alladin not far from us. We met up with them early in the week to grab dinner and play mini-golf. They came to our Saturday show and helped with makeup and tearing down. We grabbed some dinner afterwards, and then headed over to help their cast get ready. They put on a great show. Afterwards, we helped tear down their set, and we all went out for drinks to celebrate our successful week. On Sunday, we headed back for headquarters in Barrett, MN. We had the week off for the 4th of July. I decided to stay in Barrett with some of my fellow tour friends. We've spent the week bumming around, and just having a good time. We've gone to see lots of movies, gone mini-golfing, bumper boating, go karting, hit up batting cages, and lounged around headquarters. Today we've celebrated the 4th by holding a badminton tournament, setting off fireworks, and enjoying each other's company. Tomorrow, we all head back out. Joseph and I will continue our journey in Buffalo, MN. |
